Which Naples port should you choose?
For a passenger trip to Capri, compare a fast service from Molo Beverello with Caremar departures labelled Napoli Porta di Massa. These are different terminals within the Naples waterfront, not two names for the same boarding gate. NLG’s Naples–Capri route explicitly uses Beverello; Caremar’s current departure board identifies its Capri ferry and TMV services at Porta di Massa.
Choose by the actual sailing, terminal and onward plan, not simply the cheapest result headed “Naples”. Both routes bring you to Capri’s Marina Grande. Neither delivers you to the Piazzetta or to an Anacapri hotel. A scheduled ferry is transport; an island-circuit excursion is a separate product.
Caremar: Naples departure ports and Capri arrival geographyBeverello: NLG’s fast passenger connection
Search NLG’s Napoli Beverello–Capri route for your travel date and read the selected seasonal panel. The operator now publishes separate panels for 4–30 November 2026, December 2026 and January–March 2027, as well as the 1 April–3 November 2026 panel. Summer’s extra evening sailings do not continue automatically into November.
For example, NLG’s 4–30 November 2026 panel lists Naples departures at 08:05, 11:35, 16:30 and 19:15, and Capri returns at 06:50, 09:05, 15:25 and 18:10. These are dated published times, not a same-day operating guarantee or seat reservation. They show why choosing a winter return first matters: an afternoon arrival is unsuitable for a substantial independent day visit.
NLG: Naples–Capri dated service panels, including November 2026Porta di Massa: read Caremar’s vessel and departure labels
Caremar’s live board distinguishes Ferry from TMV, its fast motor-vessel category. Do not assume every departure from Porta di Massa has the same duration. The board retrieved on 24 October 2026 listed next-day Naples–Capri examples of 05:35–06:32 by TMV and 07:55–09:17 by ferry. Those illustrate different journey lengths; they are not a recurring timetable for an unspecified date.
Use Caremar’s date search for the journey you intend to buy. The operator also displays an undated warning that fuel-supply difficulties linked to a transport protest may cause cancellations. That notice does not identify which future sailing will run. Keep the sailing’s operating status separate from a route being offered in the booking menu.
Caremar: vessel-specific board and current service noticesFrom Napoli Centrale or the airport to the correct quay
A train arriving at Napoli Centrale still leaves a city transfer before boarding. Piazza Garibaldi is the station area; do not walk out expecting to see the Capri boats. If taking a taxi, give the driver the terminal written on your ticket, either Molo Beverello or Porta di Massa, rather than just “the port”.
From Naples airport, ANM’s Alibus serves Piazza Garibaldi, Immacolatella/Porta di Massa and Molo Angioino/Beverello in that order towards the port. Its ordinary single ticket is €5. ANM quotes 35 minutes airport–port, but traffic, waiting and the walk to the boarding point are additional planning considerations. A flight’s landing time is not your ferry-terminal arrival time.
ANM: Alibus stop order, €5 ticket and published journey guidanceWhat the NLG fare includes, and what costs extra
NLG’s published 2026 tariff gives €25 adult one way on ordinary services and €23 on services marked IR. It lists €5 per luggage piece each way. A Capri landing contribution is additional: the page states €5 per person for April–October and €2.50 for its stated winter period. Read the selected booking total, since discounts, eligibility and extra charges depend on the ticket.
An ordinary October adult return is €55 for two €25 crossings plus one €5 landing contribution, before luggage or other applicable charges. Taking one chargeable bag in both directions raises those specified items to €65. This is an NLG example, not a fare claim for Caremar or an all-in Capri day budget. Local island transport, meals and attractions remain separate.
NLG: ordinary and IR fares, luggage and landing contributionPassenger tickets and car carriage are different decisions
Beverello fast passenger services are not a way to take a hire car to Capri. Caremar’s fleet includes vessels that can carry vehicles, but a vehicle space does not establish permission to bring your particular car onto the island. Before considering carriage, establish the current dated island vehicle restrictions, any exemption and your rental company’s written permission.
For a normal first visit, compare travelling as a foot passenger and leaving the car on the mainland. Capri town’s lanes and the port-to-town height difference mean an island car is not a substitute for planning your luggage arrival. No current exemption or unrestricted visitor-car access is assumed in this guide.
Caremar: passenger and vehicle carriage varies by shipAt Marina Grande, choose Capri town or Anacapri
For Capri town and the Piazzetta, continue from Marina Grande by funicular when operating, bus or taxi. For Anacapri, plan the road connection uphill; it is a separate town rather than the funicular’s upper terminus. Tell your accommodation your arrival service and establish the final route from the vehicle stop or funicular to the entrance.
For mobility assistance on Caremar, its current notice asks passengers to purchase travel and notify the operator at least 48 hours ahead. The dedicated assistance contact is WhatsApp +39 345 9722424. This does not establish step-free access through the hotel or suitability of an optional small-rowboat Blue Grotto visit.
Caremar: 2026 assistance notice and dedicated contactChoose the return before adding a boat tour
For a day trip, secure a return that leaves time to get back down to Marina Grande and complete boarding. A Blue Grotto queue has no fixed end time, and a sightseeing boat can return late or follow a changed route. Do not connect a short excursion straight into the final mainland sailing.
For an overnight stay, avoid making the last viable sea crossing your only route to a flight or reserved long-distance train. Sea disruption can affect more than one operator; changing companies is not a guaranteed escape. If the mainland commitment is fixed and important, compare a preceding mainland night rather than relying on a private boat rescue.
